another one I am looking at using is the 4517 (just got 10 in the mail)
for some odd reason it is not listed in my version of CMOS COOKBOOK or in the any other CMOS books I have (they skip right over it going from 4516 to 4518)
from what I can tell this chip is as easy to use as the 4031....you plug in a data and a clock, and pick the output you want
unless I am missing something you SHOULD be able to cascade them to get 128 bits
in the datasheet, they talk about using it as a digital scratchpad but they dont actually show any applications
thanks!
