I use (well, "use" is still a somewhat powerful term for what I do) Verilog because people I talk to know it and it looks like a bunch of synthish stuff out there is written it in. I've been in this game long enough to have a strong suspicion that it would take a big technical advantage on VHDL's part to surmount this, and I've heard nothing to suggest that such a thing exists.
