this has been an exciting week or two for me
i have been building a new vco every few days on the breadboard....going through stacks of schematics and testing them out
ARP
EMS
BUCHLA
KORG
ROLAND
TEISCO (not working yet)
(no moog yet....trying to figure out which one to try....the MINIMOOG schematics are confusing...actually so are the modular schematics)
I am trying to find out what they have in common, and more, trying to see what they don't...hoping to take something away when all of this is done
sometimes people say its in the filter, not the oscillator...after these tests I think I must say I hear a difference between different VCOS....of course a lot of that might be how
they deal with making the waves....not perfect in most cases...
but they have a spirit, a life to them for sure
its been great as before this series of builds I had mainly only built Electronotes style VCO's.....
it has been nice to work with transistors
anyway...Some of these seem easier than others to modify or simplify
the EMS vcs3 vco sounds BIG and full...
all in all they seem pretty resilient...pretty tolerant of part value changes.
what VCO's do you like to mess around with?
