[sdiy] O'scope recommend - remove the graticule

Could you modify an old CRT telly or monitor?

There are loads (skipsful) of nice large CRT screens kicking about for no money (=very cheap experiments) and I've seen various sites with mods to make them into oscilloscopes. After all, the guts of it is a ramp for horizontal scanning and a signal amplifier for vertical deflection - not beyond the likes of us, I'd have thought. Just be careful not to zap yourself.

I remember seeing such a thing at the Exploratorium in San Francisco back in 1989. It struck me then as a pretty cool thing to do, and given that memory has remained with me whereas most of last week is a blank, it must have made quite an impression ;)
