While (approximately) on the subject, there are some new parts that
might make this type of VCO a little easier to build. While I haven't
evaluated them, the BC847PN and MMDT3946 are NPN/PNP transistor pairs
that, while they're not being sold as "matched pairs," I would have to
think would have excellent thermal coupling. They're SMT, very
inexpensive and the MMDT looks to be a 3904 and a 3906 in a single
package. Also, both Mouser and Digi-Key carry the Panasonic 1K and
1.8k SMT tempcos.
