Tempcos might be hard to get and cost more...
Heater uses much more power, excess heat might make other components drift...

(I use tempcos epoxied to dual transistors, usually...)

A related question......

There are 2 build options in the EFM build doc, a 1K tempco option and 
an oven-heater option, is there an advantage of one method of 
temperature stabilisation over the other? I've got a couple of these 
PCBs lurking in the backlog pile....

Any thoughts welcome.
