[sdiy] transistor filters books?

Dan,

I don't think you are going to find such a book. High order active
filters did not become practical until Philbrick introduced the
transistor operational amplifier in the early 50's, and from old
schematics I've looked at - mostly test equipment - were not common
place until the introduction of IC op-amps. You are probably finding
what I have noticed, that most discrete transistor filters are single
stage high pass or low pass.

Take a look at http://www.philbrickarchive.org/ where you will find
links to early app-notes including this one from 1966 on filters,
http://www.analog.com/library/analogdialogue/archives/philbrick/074-078.pdf.
