[sdiy] 828 transistor?

I'm looking at a project (Red Square bare PCB), and it calls for an "828"
transistor. This is an "as-is" project with no support offered or promised.
So, I'm curious, has anyone a clue what this is? The footprint is for a
regular transistor, not a power type. I found a 2SC828 but other searches
have turned up nothing.

Any ideas?
