Where this can cause a big problem is with newer MIDI interfaces that use a
3v3 supply voltage.
They lower the value of the series resistors so you still get the same
current through the front end of an opto, and it works.
But if your microcontroller-based MIDI-powered device needs 5v, you're
stuffed.
