I'm 100% on this.
The big thing, for me, is the fact that it's so much easier now for people to form communities to talk about this stuff (this mailing list of course being a canonical example, but also things like the electro-music forums, muff wiggler, etc.)
If it wasn't for this list, my "Electronics for Music Synthesis" class wouldn't exist - there are many people on this list orders of magnitude more qualified to teach such a class than me. I feel blessed that I can learn from their wisdom, and try to share at least a small part of that with my students.
