It's very hard to work out from those fuzzy schematics. I hadn't even spotted the comparator reset when I first looked, but you're right, it's definitely there.

Why would you include a comparator reset in a DCO if you don't use sync?
The only thing I can think of is that the hardware includes several options that never made it into the software - like extra DCO2 waveshape options generated by switching different combinations of those octave squarewaves.
