Ok, nevermind. It doesn't sound very promising for "everyday" use.

One thing to think about is copper tape. I bought a roll of this at my
local electronic components shop (go Lee's!) for putting a solderable
surface on some aluminum sheet. One could cut this with an exacto knife to
make a stencil, and then just stick it onto bare board. The adhesive on the
back is pretty strong, and you've then essentially got a copper trace.

Indeed, I'm wondering whether one could use one of those stencil-making
cutting printers to cut a PCB stencil, and then just peel the backing off
and stick the pattern down on a piece of blank PCB (or any flat plastic, or
anything non-conductive and drillable, really).

Finally, one might even be able to transfer and etch the tape with the
protective backing still on it (provided it didn't leak and spoil). Then
just peel off your traces and stick them on.

In any case, kludging with little bits of wire (or long leads) works well
and is pretty easy.
