[sdiy] can shipping cause nuts to cross thread??

Either the nut was cross-threaded when it shipped, or it has been removed
and re-fitted to the jack with the threads crossed since.
It seems highly unlikely a postal worked would do that. If they were going
to interfere at all, it would usually be with the swift application of a
fork-lift truck.
Sounds like neither end of a shipment wants to admit they were responsible ?
