With the DIY engraved panels this is true. You pretty much pay for every 
tick and slash so I went the Oberheim route and had no scales. The only 
thing I do add is the - and + and a centre line on reversible 
attenuators. The silver panels on some modules are a little more complex 
with three colours being used but still no pot scales.

Now the ready made stuff is a little different. Paul Darlow does the 
Euro and MU, and Scott Deyo does the MOTM panel designs. Since these are 
printed they can have all the usual tick marks that one expects.
