I use scales to write down patches. It's also the easiest way to
communicate a setting to someone else.
Few people bother making useful scales (% or dB attenuation, Hz,
oct/V...). It's a pity because it would give you a chance to
associate a subjective sensation with an objective measurement.
And it would make your notes useful on synths of a different
model or calibrated differently.
