[sdiy] Cascading/Switched multiples schematic?

Hey again,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a schematic or some info on how to build a switched/cascading multiple?

Basically I want 1 x socket to act as an input which then sends that signal to the other 7 outs - until something is plugged into (e.g.) socket 5 in which case signal/input 1 (socket 1) will appear at outputs 2/3/4 and signal/input 2 (socket 5) will appear at outputs 6/7/8 - and (ideally) so on and so on.

Oh - I'm not sure if it will affect the design - but I'd like all I/O to be buffered.

Make sense? Advice? Thoughts, etc? Nice one.
