The systems theory aspect of a first year course: linear SISO systems, Laplace transform, integrators, differentiators, gain blocks, and their combinations, sketching a Bode plot given a transfer function in the s-plane (something like this: http://www.ijee.dit.ie/OnlinePapers/Interactive/Cheevers/EACWebPaper/index.html), perhaps root locus diagrams (poles plotted vs. gain -- let's you quickly see when and how a system becomes unstable). I'm probably forgetting some things that could also be of interest to you, but you will probably find them for yourself one you start digging through the suggested topics. Hope it helps a little.

Great, that's the one I had in mind when suggesting reading up about the
root locus method. Thanks for posting this.
