When you find NEW regulators faulty, it isn't a
matter of quality control, it's usually counterfeiting.

Nobody expects a $20 Gucci bag from Shanghai
to be genunine., but a $.03 National 78XX regulator
doesn't seem to raise any flags.
Seriously, we've seen this kind of thing in Australia -
including power transistor cases with 'ordinary' 
little transistors inside, you would hardly think it worth 
doing.. oh, and those big 6V 'lantern batteries' with
nearly nothng inside..

True, this is as nothing compared to all the REAL ripoffs
we experience every day, but they would be off-topic ;D
