[sdiy] Socket schematic symbol question

No harm in me asking this...

Is there any reason why I couldn't wire up the one on the right using Pins 3 and 5 as Tip/Hot/Signal and either use Pin 2 as Sleeve/Ground and leave Pin 1 floating (or tie it to Ground as well) or use Pin 1 as Sleeve/Ground and leave Pin 2 floating (or tie it to Ground as well)... or any other combination?

I'm trying to source a mono socket in a particular shape - the two I've found have this pin out on the data sheet. I'll admit I might be trying to bend squares into circles a little here, but...
