I do all my prototyping in stripboard, one big
plus is, if it works, then you have a unit built
ready to box. ;D

I have found it much better to put a drill bit in an
unattached chuck key, and use that for a cutter -
I use pop rivit drill bits, which are cheap, short,
and double ended.

I have a stiff wire brush that I scrub the tracks with after 
soldering, in the hope of removing any solder shorts.
And I check all adjacent traces and across all breaks for 
shorts before powering up. Not much effort, saves many tears.
