I think it was back in the late 70's when you could pay several hundred
dollars, walk into a warehouse in West Hollywood, CA. Serge Tcherepnin
(sp?) gave you a bunch of parts w/instructions and you sat down and
began soldering. A while later, you emerged from the warehouse with a
six panel system.
Sometime in the early or mid 80's (living in San Diego CA), I had
written Serge Modular Music Systems (they were then in San Fransisco)
with an interest in a system. I received back a letter stating that the
company was reorganizing.
I think that was the time they were becoming Sound Transform Systems.
I have never gotten my hands on one, but I do know the Serge systems
were legendary for their very wide range of voltage-control over many
parameters.
