I teach at university, and I've come to the conclusion that it has largely
become a place to park young people for a few years because the shrinking
job market simply cannot absorb them all.  In my experience, only about 15
to 20% of those entering engineering school are actually engineer material.
The rest just take up space and drag everybody down.  It would be a whole
lot more fun for all involved if class sizes went from 40 mostly apathetic
and incapable students to 10 keen and interested students.
