In my view, virtuosity comes, in the largest part, from the many hours of practice
per day and not whether one looks at his instrument or even whether the instrument
has a physical interface.
It may be that in some way, "muscle memory" is trained - but only due to this
regimen of daily practice.
It would seem to me that even a Theremin with no "physical" interface can "teach"
muscle memory which isn't really muscle memory, if anything it is a combination of
higher brain function together ganglion programming by repetition.
