That's why I bought and still love my Yamaha SY99 ... ease of editing ...you
do actually see it all on the large LCD...

I don't think the problem is so much the accessing of individual parameters.
FM is all about interaction between the operators.
Since you don't have a single overview of what all the settings are, you
have to really concentrate to keep it all in your head.
FM seems much less complex once you have a visual representation of all the
operators, and how they are connected.
I only came to buy a hardware FM synth after playing with NI FM7 long enough
to realise that it is pretty straight forward.
