Another option is to record the sound separately with some digital
recording equipment (has to be digital, otherwise it will get out of
sync with the video). I did this with a video from our 2008 synth DIY
meeting:

The sound was recorded with a MiniDisc recorder, directly from the
mixing desk. I started the MD much earlier than the camera, that's
why there are so many photos at the beginning. The sound quality is
quite good, but of course there's no ambient sound at all. We'll
never know what Frank and René are talking about ;-)
I had a hard time participating in that jam session and operating the
camera the same time :-) You don't see me live playing on the video
except a glimpse of my feet stepping on the bass pedal.
I did all the splicing of the video, the photos and the audio with
Apple iMovie, obviously not intended for that kind of job. After all
the work was done I realised that the 10 minutes limit of youtube was
exceeded by far. Thanks again to Florian for hosting the stuff. To
compare the sound quality, the other videos are recorded with the
camera's built-in microphone:

Thanks for listening/watching!
