Recently I built a coil winding machine with my old Fischertechnik  
kit, and an electronic counter. Winding a 500 turns inductor with 0.1  
mm wire wasn't difficult at all and took only a few minutes.

I'm toying with the idea of building JH's Moog fixed filter bank  
clone with real inductors...
