Actually that looks like the interface from hell for an additive and FM engine. Unless there was a terminal option, it would have been worse than the DX7 to program, with no visual feedback. 

Not that the DX7 interface didn't also have the interface from hell too. But it was small, cheap, you could carry it under one arm and it had MIDI and velocity sensing. Also, classic sounds.

At $40k, for something without sampling, the Prism was always going to be a tough sell. 

I'd guess the synth engine could be copied in software now in a few evenings in something like Reaktor or Max.

You could even add velocity sensing. ;)
