[sdiy] Poor man's EMC testing?

We bought this sniffer probe kit that came with a little preamplifier box.
I unknowingly touched the contact probe to a circuit more than it could
handle
and fried it. Before that it worked fine with my LeCroy scope to see much
of what a more dedicated spectrum analyzer would care to see. I opened
up the box and found a little regulator circuit and single amplifier part.
I called
the manufacturer... New box $400. No replacement parts. So....
I bought a Mini-Circuits part for seven bucks, added a 78L08 regulator and
12V
power adapter - and wa la... works better than the original. Make your own.
