Ha! From what I've read it wasn't soldering that caused the problems at
Plan B.
Perhaps the real lesson: if you want to manufacture something, don't
base your design on surplus parts, and if possible layout your board to
accept multiple footprints for a given part.
From the All Electronics website: "...we bring you "pre-owned" and new
electronic parts from around the world. Because much of it is surplus,
and because technology is constantly changing, our stock is always
changing". Their parts are cheap because their catalog is based on
excess inventory they buy opportunistically.
