Sage advice. Faster = higher software overhead (more interrupts per
second), more power, greater degree of unwanted coupling to analogue
circuits, tighter timing constraints needing better physical layout
(connectors, termination, cabling), etc.
As Ingo says, you want to go as fast as you need to, and no faster
(with perhaps a small safety margin).
Whatever happened to that fast version of MIDI .. "ZIPI" I think it
was called? Supposed to run at 250kBaud.
