Bang goes your internal bus bandwidth then!  Suddenly a 3-or-so byte  
message explodes into a veritable essay on what note to turn on.

Tom will want to avoid parsing anything but simple bit-encoded  
messages on the dsPICs unless he likes sample rates measured in 1/hours.
