Hi,

Some results from googling:

> - what MCUs are there? Has anyone got specific model numbers?

The main CPU is a ColdFire.  Terry may or may not be able to say which one.

> - are there any dev boards with that chip/chips still available?

Ask Terry?

> - Are there any emulators?

For what?  The Coldfire?  Or the entire synth?

> - how is the program stored? is this hackable?

Stored in flash memory, which can be upgraded over MIDI.

> - are there any JTAG headers there?
> - how does the MCU communicate with the analogue VLSI's?
> - are there any possibilities for expandability - unused I/O pins etc?
> - are there any other specific things to know about the hardware?

More than likely need schematics for these questions.
