That's funny, because it would seem to indicate that you somehow crash
the JX-3P. It's not supposed to react to any system realtime
messages.

Anyway, the JX-3P can probably be regarded as the worst case, it
doesn't support much more than note on/off, pitchbend and hold pedal.
I would not rely on All Notes Off (and All Sound Off) to be
implemented and it might be implemented wrongly (All Notes Off should
set all playing notes to their release phase, but not cut them off).
My MIDI matrix has a "panic" function: it sends All Notes Off, then
All Sound Off, then Note Offs for all notes on all channels... while a
surefire way to stop the noise, it also does take quite a while. If
you know at least the channel and the possible list of notes to stop,
this would be preferrable.
If system reset is implemented correctly (supposedly it sets
everything back to power-up conditions), you might not get the MIDI
chain in working order without manual intervention, so I'd avoid that
too.
