i've had a similar experience with a much newer synth than the 3P. 
the gate bus scan loop on this particular synth takes around 2ms, so 
if there's a smaller gap then the off/on transition is missed 
completely. since this synth sounds excellent, i just spend endless 
hours shortening MIDI notes so as to not trigger the problem.

can you record the burping? :-)
