Thanks to all.  In addition to those replies posted here I received some
off-list responses.  I think what I will do is include a settable MIDI
pacing/delay parameter. This will allow the value to be dialed up if
needed and down if not and it becomes noticeable. It would not be
applies all over the place, just when a note-off *immediately* preceeds
a note on (and probably the same note at that).
