On this subject.. with micros being so cheap these days, 
I think a case could be made for designing a fixed frequency
oscillator around one, and then controlling the frequency
by modulating the clock of the micro.

One advantage is that you don't have to care about the 
waveform of the voltage controlled osc that provides
the clock.
