[sdiy] Substitute for pin matrixes?

Oh yeah.  I went back and read it.

Anyway, it seems like a pretty darn good idea to me: it's dirt cheap,
infinitely expandable, and it doesn't take up much room on the ol' front
panel.  I think I might just build one myself!

So, what's the purpose of the resistors, and couldn't they just be put at
the ends of each bus?
