[sdiy] Substitute for pin matrixes?

Y'all might want to check out the Bend Matrix project:

which has a selectable 4x8 Matrix or Dual 2x4. Problem is that it's set 
up for line-level stuff like guitar effects. I have an unbuilt kit and 
was thinking how I could get it to deal with synth level signals...
