[sdiy] Substitute for pin matrixes?

If you want super cheep try a set of wires strung just off center of the
holes in two sets X and Y between insulating layers with one more insulating
layer between the X and Y. You push a pin into the hole and it deflects both
wires making contact between them.

Way to expencive and complex, im talking about *dead cheap*
that rules out most things based on electronics and even
relay mechanical!

And it has to be quite small to!

But you got me thinking, a small touch surface film scanned by a micro who
latches, no leds, graphics below film, bleep as recognition of latching
or one single led blink! That would do for a more expensive system i
suppose, still to expensive for what I'm after here.

Now i got an idea of using up side down IDC's and pin list as plugs!
Hmm, wonder what life span would be for such solution?
