I can confirm it is something to do with credit card fraud from overseas. If
they get bitten by a bad card, £250 is the bank's compensation limit, I
think. My stage props business had it's card 'cloned' after is was copied at
a petrol station. Next thing we know is somebody is buying fuel in Canada
with it. Some of the companies delay dispatch to see if anything is flagged
up by the card provider or the owner. They can get hit by a chargeback fee,
not as often as XXX websites, but often enough to make them wary. I can't
see why they don't do all the precautions for the first purchase, and then
log you as a trusted customer.
I don't mind doing the occasional add on to my Rapid orders for people, and
will send by UK insured airmail post.
