Maybe they reckon it is easier to use stolen credit card numbers
than to fake bank transfers. In any case, they're not alone in
being wary of credit card payments. Thomann demand a scan of your
credit card and ID card and so do Mouser if I recall correctly.

I don't know that it's specifically against the French. If it is,
they didn't tell me. Out of fear of being stabbed to death with a
snail fork, no doubt.
