Andre,
Historically, RS Components and Farnell are some of the oldest
suppliers. Farnell have always been good to everyone wether they
are companies or hobbyists. RS on the other hand were very much
against the public. My first official trip on company business was in
the late 70's. I went to one of their trade counters. I was told all
orders
needed to be on official company letterheads, and they even phoned
the company that I worked for to check that I was who I claimed to be
before they would serve me !. They did actually start a separate mail
order business for hobbyists called Electromail. Today you can just
walk into a trade counter and buy whatever you want, no need for
accounts etc. Another big supplier is CPC which is actually part of
Farnell. They stock components but also things like PA systems,
office equipment, computer bits and made up cables.
