[sdiy] dumb DIY PS2 controller question...

If the link you sent is for this controller it has a Microcontroller in it
and all the button information is sent using a serial data protocol.
This is far more complicated than a joystick, it is very much like a
computer keyboard.
To use this thing as a synth controller you will either have to butcher its
innards up badly or use another Microcontroller to convert the data into
signals you can use.

Subject: [sdiy] dumb DIY PS2 controller question...

ok I am almost embarassed to ask this list this but I figure you all
either know the best way to figure this out or can point me to someone who
already has...

I picked up a guitar hero controller to the playstation2. It has nine pins
on the connector and I found the pinout here:

http://pinouts.ru/Game/playstation_9_pinout.shtml

The controller itself has the usual 5 colored buttons, select and start
buttons, and the whammy bar and strum "button". I was hoping it would be a
simple case of touching the various pins and pressing the buttons to find
the connections with my volt meter but I'm having no joy. Perhaps it's
needs juice?

Is there some diagram of the controller buttons on this thing or perhaps a
more logical way I should be going about this to figure out what
connection does what? When I've used other joysticks and such they've
been basically either CV pots or spst switches and were pretty simple to
figure out.

If there is any doubt on the on topic nature of this post you can imagine
my plans for this as a DIY synth controller :)

Thanks for any/all help!
