Tons of uses, take any sort of circuit with a low power resistor and swap
one of these in and you have a voltage or current controlled parameter.

For instance - inverting Op Amp, swap out the feed back resistor and have a
VCA.
Same kind of deal for filters, mixers, wave shapers, etc etc..

On a lark I ordered one of these:

About 30 Vactrols in it. A few quick measurements:

Sample #1
Ifwd = 0 mA : Rout = 6.7kohm
Ifwd = 7 mA : Rout = 300ohm

Sample #2
Ifwd = 0 mA : Rout = > 10Mohm
Ifwd = 7 ma : Rout = 200ohm

Seems pretty variable. Any use for these?
