That was one of the projects that was student-driven - i.e. we professors come in the first day and list a bunch of project ideas we have, and then students who have ideas pitch their own ideas, and we spend the first week or two with people listing their choice (1st choice, 2nd choice) of projects and assigning teams (sometimes this sorts itself out naturally, sometimes we need to intervene to balance the teams)

In this case, the guy on the right on the photo was the "driver" of the project - he had been thinking about it all summer. Two other two guys signed up, I think, since they heard "beer!"

The teams that do student-originated projects tend to wind up doing a good job, since a person with enough gumption to have a cool idea usually has enough charisma and leadership skills to coordinate their team well.

That semester I was blessed with some pretty awesome students on all the teams.
