[sdiy] micro controller/processors and VST

Hey all,

This is possibly a silly question that may not make any sense, but...

I don't have a lot of knowledge of computers and how they work. I can do stuff with them but that's about it. would it be possible to use a microprocessor or controller to run a VST synth and have it interface with physical controls all in one package... instead of having a midi controller hooked up to a computer that's running the plugin?

please tell me if I'm not making any sense and need to clarify things.

I just started messing around with Synth Edit and started thinking about hardware interfaces for virtual instruments... go me and my ideas....
