Yes, most instrumentation is build in China now days unless:
* Low volume.
* They can't build it. Some instruments are so complicated that they need to
build and tested by engineers or require technical competence that doesn't
exist in most manufacturing facilities in China (yet).
* Government contracts require it being built in the US. In a lot of cases
this just means that assemblies are sent to the US and the units are put
together in the US.
* The instruments are under trade restrictions.
Last job I had the first couple of production runs were done in the states
and then after that they moved stuff to China. They were pretty touchy about
the info the manufacturing people in China got. They were anal about us
telling them anything about the engineering of new technology/products or
trade secrets.
Current company that I work for decided about last September that they were
going to move all the manufacturing they could to China. So far they've
moved most of it but there are some product lines that they haven't been
able to get up and running.
