I suspect that the 'major' brands are also made in China.
Furthermore, if the major brand and the cheap brand look virtually
identical, they're probably made in the same factory in China.
This is relatively common - some manufacturer produces an unbranded
product, which they then sell on to various manufacturers for
branding and marketing. The price you pay depends mostly on the brand
and not on the goods.
A couple of examples: I had a cheap no-name wireless internet box
which was identical in every way (bar the stickers) to my friend's
more expensive Netgear one. My dad owns an electric screwdriver that
is identical to an expensive DeWalt one, except it has a different
coloured plastic case.
