Hi Bob!
>anyone familiar with xnview..I noted I finally used it last night. But I

This is because of the compression of the pics in the PDF. The same thing happended in Adobe Acrobat version 4.
It could be solved by converting the pictures into GIF format (reducing to 256 colors with adjusted palette). The the
PDF had about the same length as the pictures.
I tried it with 3 pics a few minutes ago:
original pics in JPG: 40kB, 309kB, 90kB => 437kB (explorer size)
PDF with XnView (Standard settings): 2713kB
converted to GIF: 50kB, 414kB, 118kB => 581kB (explorer size)
PDF with XnView (Standard settings): 568kB
If you can save your images in GIF you can get rid of the JPEG compression artifacts and in this way you
can normally get higher GIF compression and so smaller files.
If you have greyscale files you can reduce the color depth to 16 - you will normally see no difference but the
files are much smaller.
With this you can scan and save for example 100 page synth manuals in only a few megabytes!
I hope that helps.
If you need further help please email me privately as I am quite sure that not everybody is interested in this offtopic discussion.
Ciao
Peter
