There is nothing at all wrong with the CA3046 based 
oscillator, but note that you must use the exact transistors 
in the chip as specified in the application notes, for the 
heating & thermal feedback to operate correctly.
Since the heating does not exceed the design criterion, 
I don't think thermal degradation would be a problem.

Might a more recently manufactured LM3046 have a 
slight edge on an elderly CA3046? I do not know.
